Odds & ends

This post is about odds & ends.

Look at these 9 patchs!!! These are from the 9 patch swap that Julie organised, aren't they just so lovely? This swap has had me very excited and now I've recieved the blocks I'm not disappointed. Thank you so much, ladies, that took part in this swap, there are going to be some beautiful quilts made from these. At present I am fancing putting them on their points in lines with soild blocks in lines in between.

I probably won't get to making this quilt up for a while because I need fabric for it and I've not got much time at present to sort it.

On Saturday it was my birthday and DD made me a lovely birthday cake. We had a day in Chester as we had to pick up the men's suits from the hirer's for the wedding next Saturday. There was DD, Oh! Bearded One, my Mum & Dad and myself. We had breakfast in Chester city centre as we got there early and on the way back to Northwich we had lunch at one of our favorite pubs in Kesall. I did very well as I had been out on Friday night on a do for work and got back very late so I had very little sleep. I just had to have a little nap later in the day!

What is it with animals and quilts? This quilt is one I made earlier in the year for my God-Daughter's 18th birthday. I had to give it to her unfinished as I had run out of time (story of my life), anyway, I want to get it finished this week if I can as she is coming to DD's wedding and it would be nice for her to take it back to Sheffield with her. When the quilt was attached to the sewing machine Molly sat on it, next thing I am using the ironing board to attach the binding and she has to move and sit on it again!  It has well and truely been tested!

This quilt is now at the quilters, except it is waiting for its backing. I feel like a proper quilter now I've put my first quilt out to a quilter.

A little bit of quilting!

Oh! No! you say, not Christmas decorations! Oh yes! I say!
Our local garden centre put their Christmas decs out the last week of September and I happened to be down there as they were opening the display. I spotted this little tree and fell in love. It is glass with glass baubles. I went to the garden centre this week and I didn't see any so I'm glad I bought it when I did.

A couple of weeks ago I said I was putting the sewing machine away because of the big clean up for DD's wedding. Well! I did put it away...................for a couple of days! And look what I got up to.

I saw this little wallhanging in the flesh at the Festival of Quilts in August and loved it.

So when I saw it on the front of this magazine I knew I had to make it.

This is my part completed effort, I still think it is cute!

I buy a lot of the American quilting magazines as I am afraid I think they are so much nicer than our UK based two. I have a local village newsagents that sell a lot of craft mags including many American ones, it is a shame they don't stock Oz ones.
Anyway this one had this in it - I thought this would look so nice in Kate Spain's 12 Days of Christmas for Moda.

 Here's my example!

Just waiting for quilting now, pobably with the walking foot.

A bit of a do!

A week on Saturday my DD gets married!

Yesterday we had a little tea party for her. She has already had her hen party with her friends, she went to Blackpool for the weekend 2/3rd Oct. Jan (MIL) & I decided we would have this little 'do' so some of our family could come together and get to know each other a bit before the big day.

This is me! Look! glasses in hand, they have to go everywhere with me-lol! Next Saturday is my 49th birthday. I'm telling you my age as next year is the big 50 and although I don't like getting older I am going to celebrate it!

Here is my Mum! She hates having her photo taken so I did well here to get her to look at the camera.

Here is the Bride to be! She is getting excited now and we are all looking forward to the big day! I hope you are all ready to be bored to death by the photos!

Why am I showing you a photo of a cake. Well! this is a rare example of me baking something! I used to love cooking and baking but these days I do anything to avoid them but I couldn't get away with not baking a cake for this occasion. It is a coffee and walnut sponge. Enjoy! it might be the last for a while. I need to go and lie down in a darken room to get over the shock.

Tomorrow quilty stuff!
