Online quilty things!

This is how far I've got with my little hexies for 'Frosted Flakes' BOM The hexie template is slightly bigger that the on used on the original pattern but I didn't feel I could cope with that one as it is very small to me. These 5 'flowers' are the ones I've completed so far. All the hexies I need for this project are basted but nothing has been attached to the background fabric yet although that is prepared.

Now cut up and becoming 9 patches. I hope the fabric is right, Julie, I not very 'up' on repro fabrics. The top photo is a truer representation of the colours. I love these 2 colours.

I love these on line swaps. I enjoy planning fabrics etc, making the items and then receiving mine.

I am so looking forward to receiving my 9 patch blocks. I've even decided what sort of quilt top I am going to make. Some of the quilters taking part are very well known in the blog world and are excellent quilters. I hope my blocks are up to standard, I have tried very hard to be accurate with mine as I don't want to think my blocks couldn't be used in a quilt top as they weren't up to scratch. It will be really nice to have blocks made by these other ladies taking part from all over the world and knowing what good quilters they are!

Festival of Quilts 2010-Part 1

Here is part 1 of my offering from this year's Festival of Quilts at the NEC. I am showing quilts that spoke to me in some way.


This quilt is called Ground Zero.



This was designed by Lois Jarvis and it represents the human impact of the World Trade Centre deaths. Each piece in the lone star is a photo of one of the 621 people who died.

It made a big impact.

This exhibition was of 900 christening type bonnets which have been made to commemorate the hundreds of convict women who were shipped to Australia. This display is a fraction of the bonnets that have actually been made. 14,000 have been completed but the artist, Christina Henri, wants a total of 25,566.

Each bonnet has been embellished in a very individual way using embroidery, crochet and various other stitching methods.

The next 2 photos are of items that caught my eye.

This quited book is full of clothing labels, there was also a lap quilt on display using this type of label.

And look, I met on of my quilting heros - Lynette Anderson! I really wanted to meet her and I did! I also got her new book, signed no less!!

Just a quick post to say just back from the Festival of quilts. Had a wonderful time!!!! Spend loads of monet, saw some nice quilts and enjoyed the company of my friend, Jan. Tell you all about it next week when I get back from my short break in Wales.

Blocks 11 & 12

Blocks 11 & 12 are done so still on track. I think I'll end up going off track next week as the Oh! Bearded One and I are going to Wales to stay with his sister for 5 days.

Last Monday it was my Mum's birthday. We had a 'bit of a do' for her at our house.

It's my Dad's birthday on the 23rd whilst we are away.

On Thursday I am going to the Festival of Quilts at the NEC in Birmingham with Gromit's Mum, Jan. We are staying overnight so we get to enjoy 2 days of quilts and fabric - yipee!!!!!

Blocks 9 & 10 and other things!

Still on track! I'm amazed that life hasn't got in the way of completing these! Although this coming week maybe more difficult as I'm going back up to Edinburgh on Tuesday with SofM with all his stuff and then I'm working the rest of the week but I'll try to keep up.

This block isn't perfect but I think I'll get away with it when the quilt is put together and quilted. I might decide to redo it has I'm not sure the contrast between the light paisley and the green is enough but I'll wait until all the blocks are completed and then see what it looks like.

This block went together well.

So ten blocks now! Blocks 11 & 12 come out on Tuesday and then the week after it is the centre medallion which will be the really hard bit for me I think.

Here is my needlecase in progress for the applique needlecase swap. This must be finished this week as it needs to be in the post by next week.

I've got fed up with threads, bits & pieces laying about in my sewing area so I made this little container to put them in

Its so much better to put them is this than them laying about!

I have found another use for this Moda Peace on Earth jelly roll, I'm using part of it for the 'Frosted Flakes' BOM

I've done a bit more to my crocheted blanket. I think this will become a knee blanket for wheelchair users at work. I do a bit each evening while I'm blog reading and watching T.V.

I picked this little jug from our Bric-a-brack stall at work's Summer fair & BBQ last weekend. I'm going to give it Mum for her birthday tomorrow, she has a small collection on a shelf in her kitchen and I think it will go in there.

These 2 'join ins' use 2 of my favorite patches - a hexie and a 9 patch. I can't resist either of these. I am really looking forward to getting on with them.

Right! I'm off to cut out blocks 9 and 10 for the Summer Star quilt and start the Christmas hexie wall hanging.
